Hi! I'm Ty.

I'm a jewelry designer based in Washington, DC. I make wildly fun, one-of-a-kind statement pieces using upcycled and vintage rhinestones, beads, and components scoured from the corners of the world. Each piece I craft is truly unique.

My designs explore materiality through two mediums. One body of work centers around bead-embroidery on leather. I meticulously sew rhinestones and beads in bright, bold colorways on garment-grade leather. I trim the raw leather edge with 24K gold or sterling plated beads. My bead work is an act of love that results in deeply textured, compellingly layered, lightweight pieces that stand the test of time.

My other body of work centers around the found object. I upcycle found materials, deadstock and new stock components in a resin base to form a new matrixed object that I tab-set in a fabricated brass frame. I work in series informed by my limited stock of coordinated components. Each piece in a series is part of a family of familiars, but totally individual.

I studied art and art history at the College of William and Mary where I focused on sculpture and painting. I began making jewelry after moving to Colorado, where I abandoned my ceramics practice for a portable medium that I could take on road trips to ski, hike, bike, and run in the mountains. Impressions from the America west have left an indelible mark on both my beading and relic work.

My studio is located at 52 O Street Studios in Northwest DC.
